About the Hideout
Join us for our next Hideout, the New York Guild of Leathercraft’s regular gathering for leather craftspeople across New York City.
The Hideout is a chance to step away from the workbench, meet other craftspeople, share what you’ve been working on, exchange ideas and techniques, and get to know others working across the many sides of leathercraft.
Whether you work with shoes, bags, saddlery, watch straps, belts, upholstery, repairs, pattern making, or something completely different, you’re welcome. Bring a project, a piece you’ve been working on, or simply come by to meet the community.
Our Hideouts are informal and open to craftspeople at all stages, from experienced professionals to those just beginning their journey.
Evening Schedule
6:30 PM — Arrival & Welcome
Come by, grab a drink, and settle in. We’ll have some time to welcome everyone and get conversations started.
6:45 PM — Guild Welcome & Introduction
A brief introduction to the Guild, followed by updates on upcoming activities and initiatives.
7:00 PM — Round Table Introductions
A chance for everyone to introduce themselves and share a little about who they are and what they do.
If you’d like, you’re very welcome to bring along a small object, project, or piece you’ve made as a conversation starter. This is completely optional.
7:30 PM — Guild Updates & Open Conversation
We’ll share updates on upcoming Guild activities, including Hide & Seek visits and trips, Awl Ears lectures and talks, and collaborative projects within the Guild and the wider community.
There will also be plenty of time for questions, discussion, and sharing ideas with fellow craftspeople.
7:45 PM — Mingling & Open Conversation
An informal opportunity to meet other members, look at each other’s work, exchange knowledge, and continue conversations.
Beer, soft drinks, and light snacks will be provided. Guests are also welcome to bring something to share if they wish.
Who Can Attend?
The Hideout is open to members and prospective members of the New York Guild of Leathercraft.
Whether you are an established professional, an independent maker, a student, an apprentice, or simply developing your skills, we welcome craftspeople interested in learning, sharing, and contributing to the community.
The Guild values seriousness without elitism. You do not need to have a particular level of experience or specialize in a particular type of leathercraft to take part.
Please RSVP in advance so we can plan accordingly.
We look forward to seeing you at Manhattan Saddlery and spending the evening together!
