Join the Guild

The Guild is built around people who care deeply about making.

Membership is an opportunity to meet other craftspeople, exchange knowledge and resources, discover different approaches to leathercraft, and become part of a growing community of makers in New York.

Our gatherings are called Hideouts, and we also organize studio visits, field trips, craft demonstrations, discussions, and other activities throughout the year.

Membership
Membership is currently free of charge.

We review each membership request individually. This helps us maintain a community centered on professional craftsmanship while remaining welcoming to committed emerging makers, apprentices, and craftspeople from across the trade.

What matters most is a genuine interest in the craft, curiosity about other makers, and a willingness to contribute to the Guild.

What Happens After I Apply?
Tell us a little about yourself, your work, and what brought you to leathercraft.

Once we receive your application, we’ll review it and get back to you by email.

If you become a member, you’ll receive invitations and updates about upcoming Guild gatherings, field visits, demonstrations, and other activities.

Our Guild Formats
The Guild’s activities are organized around a few recurring formats, each offering a different way to connect with the community and the wider world of leathercraft.

Hideout — The Guild Gathering
Our regular Guild gathering, held approximately every two months, usually on Monday evenings. Members come together to meet one another, share projects, and exchange ideas around leathercraft.

Hide & Seek — Guild Visits & Trips
Visits and field trips organized throughout the year to workshops, factories, tanneries, suppliers, studios, and other places connected to leathercraft and the wider craft trade.

Awl Ears — Guild Lectures & Talks
Lectures, maker talks, presentations, panel discussions, and conversations where makers share knowledge and experience around craftsmanship, techniques, materials, and the wider craft trade.

There is no obligation to attend every gathering. We know craftspeople have busy working lives, and the Guild is meant to create connections, not obligations.

We use your information to keep you connected with the Guild and, where appropriate, to help members connect with one another for collaboration, knowledge exchange, and professional opportunities. Your information is handled with respect and in keeping with the spirit of the Guild.
